Standards:
-Danielson Group Framework 1B (The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.)
-InTASC Standard 1 (The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.)
Learning Objective:
Teachers will be able to name and define the components of a SIOP lesson on a Google Drive spreadsheet and on a Survey Monkey quiz (tied to Bloom’s first level, knowledge).
Learning Strategies:
The instructor will guide the teachers/learners through a series of Prezi slides the instructor found useful, YouTube videos that explain the SIOP strategies and demonstrate their use in classrooms, group discussions, and individual note taking on a Google Drive spreadsheet. The cycle will continue through all 8 components.
The instructor will explain each strategy for a few minutes, relying on the notes shown on the Prezi (http://prezi.com/6ntypxctybef/siop/). Then the instructor will show each video clip from YouTube. These clips are provided by Pearson, the publisher who created the SIOP book. Below are the links to each video connected to each SIOP component:

Once each video clip is over, the instructor will have the teachers/learners spend time in discussion about what they saw on the video and what they gleaned from the video clip. Group members will take turns recording notes on a large piece of chart paper. Then groups will share with the instructor and the whole group briefly. The instructor will guide those discussions to ensure the content has been understood.
After each group discussion, the instructor will monitor teachers/learners as they complete a spreadsheet of their notes to help them remember the components as well as apply the strategies to their own classrooms. Below is the link to a sample of this spreadsheet, what a teacher/learner may complete by the end of the lesson.

Assessment:
Since the Bloom’s Taxonomy level that I was aiming to achieve in this lesson was knowledge, I have included a quick survey where the teachers will recall the 8 components of the SIOP Model. For my own knowledge and a chance to improve the way I present the SIOP strategies in the future, I have also added a more reflective question as well. Below is the link to the quiz.
